What performers can expect

Our club is very friendly and welcomes people from all backgrounds. You will find a range of talent and abilities from seasoned performers to people who have never performed in front of an audience. Everyone is welcome whether to perform or be audience members.

A place to perform in a safe environment.  You can try out new material, perform old material .  Some local established performers often use our club as a rehearsal run.

There is no prescribed musical style, we started life as a folk club, but are happy to listen to blues, country, contemporary, rock & roll, songs from the musicals, self-penned songs, instrumentals, you name the style and over the years someone has performed it.

Poetry and prose are very welcome - we have even had the odd magic trick performed at the club.

We do not use backing tapes, but portable instruments including keyboards are welcome. We use a small PA system, and we are happy to help people achieve a balanced sound. So, whether you perform as a solo artist, in a duo or a band or just play a very loud instrument we try to ensure the voices are heard.

We are not a play and flee venue like some open mics but a play and stay venue. As a performer we expect you to listen to others as they perform. Of course some people do need to leave early for public transport or other good reasons but we prefer you to stay to the end of the night if you can.

Depending on how many people wish to perform you may get the chance to perform 1 or 2 songs in the first half and if there is time you may get called back in the second half.

All ages are welcome though to be honest our age profile is older that we would want it to be. There are plenty of young people who make music and they are welcome at the club.

The venue is licensed to sell alcohol. Soft drinks, tea, coffee, & snacks such as crisps & nuts are also on sale at the bar.

We have a break/interval during the evening. We finish around 10.15pm so we can pack away our equipment.  However, the bar remains open for a while after that and you are welcome to buy another drink.

We ask all attendees (including those who wish to perform) to make a donation of £3, which helps cover the room hire charge. We wish we did not need to charge but there are so few free venues these days.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Accessibility

Our venue is accessible via a permanent well lit ramp and there is an accessible toilet. If you need different or specific support to access our club let us know either by emailing wfac@btinternet.com in advance. We will do our best to help.

Audience members

The audience are expected to be quietly respectful during each performers spot unless they are asked to join in with the song or poem. That does not stop the banter between performances. Many a witty comment is directed at the host for the evening and/or the performers. And if you don’t catch what is said there will be someone to repeat it to you especially if it was funny.

We ask all attendees (including those who wish to perform) to make a donation of £3, which helps cover the room hire charge.
